How Hot Octopuss is responding to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

With the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation developing quickly, we believe it’s important to be transparent about how Hot Octopuss is responding to the outbreak. Our philosophy as a business is to approach this situation with empathy and urgency; Hot Octopuss’s top priority is the health and safety of our team and of the customers we serve.

Given how rapidly the outbreak is evolving, we expect, and are prepared, to continually iterate on our approach to ensure the health and safety of our employees and customers. The information below is reflective of our guidelines and practices as of March 10, 2020. We will update this post accordingly to reflect any fundamental changes to our plan.

Customer Orders

Our delivery network will be under additional strain throughout this period. Whilst we are doing everything we can to ensure orders are delivered in a timely fashion, there may be delays in customers receiving their orders. Manufacturing may also be affected so there are possibilities of stock shortages in the future. We ask customers and partners to be patient and understanding if these circumstances arise. We will be doing everything we can to mitigate against issues.

Employee Travel

All company-related travel is currently banned until April 9th, 2020. We believe that limiting travel is our safest and best option for reducing the risks of infection. Employees with pre-planned trips, customer visits, or events are receiving assistance to cancel their travel.

For personal travel, we are asking all employees who travel by airplane or cruise ship to self-quarantine for 14 days upon their return.

Remote Work

Hot Octopuss has always been a strong proponent of remote work. In light of the situation, we are leaning even more heavily into remote work in a few ways:

  • Requiring all employees to work remotely.
  • Sending employees a comprehensive guide to remote work, including an IT preparedness checklist

Internal Communications

At this time, we are doubling down on our commitment to transparency and sharing information rapidly with team and customers as the situation develops.

In addition to taking the precautions above, we are keeping empathy top of mind. It is a stressful time for our communities around the world, and so we want to do everything we can to minimize panic and maximize safety.
