Does A Cock Ring Work With A Strap On?

Does A Cock Ring Work With A Strap On?

As a queer, kinky, femme person who’s dated men a lot, I have tried a couple of cock rings in the past. They were quickly relegated to the bottom of the sex toy bag after I found that they did little to nothing for me, even with a bullet attached.

With my current partner (who identifies as non-binary but possesses a wonderful vulva) we have mostly tried to find toys that allow us to connect face-to-face and experience mutual orgasm. I have physical disabilities, so many positions are awkward or painful. I desperately want to be able to hold my partner close, but am often unable to do that while supporting my own body and still giving reliable clitoral stimulation. We both (like many people) love to get fucked too, but neither of us can come from penetration alone.

This has all led us to search for alternative solutions. The obvious one seemed to be to occasionally use something phallic and buzzy. We first tried a vibrating ‘strapless strap-on’ dildo, which didn’t quite go to plan. The vibration was pretty strong but not in the right place to get either of us off, and we both had a hard time keeping the dildo inside us without a harness (the actual whole point of the toy).

Luckily, Hot Octopuss came to the rescue, offering us a chance to try their ATOM and ATOM PLUS cock rings in exchange for an honest review.

Using the ATOM PLUS cock ring with a strap-on

My partner and I favour the Lovehoney Curved Silicone Suction Cup Dildo 7 Inch (referred to as The Purple Dick) used with a pair of harness briefs, and were curious to see how the ATOM toys might add to the experience. No reviews existed where a vulva owner had used the toy with a strap-on and so I was keen to test them both out.

I suck at reading instructions and so started to try and charge the toys without reading how. In doing so, I almost broke the ATOM PLUS before we had used it by trying to detach the silver end pieces looking for the charging port. The actual charging port is hidden under the silky silicone skin on one side. Once found, the toys charged in two hours. The silicone feels sensual to the touch and the ring bends easily at the middle. Both toys have a slight ridge which aims at providing more specific clitoral stimulation.

I tried out ATOM PLUS for solo play before using it as a cock ring and found it worked best when turned up quite high. The shape was tricky to get close to my clit unless I folded it in half and/or pushed it hard against myself. That said, it did bring me to shuddering orgasm in no time at all. Using it as a couples’ toy would prove quite different.

Attached to a strap-on the vibration was enjoyable for both me and my partner, however, due to being designed for a penis owner with balls, it swung around a lot on a standard dildo and was therefore not effective as a hands-free experience. It needed to be held in place and although did eventually get my partner to orgasm, the whole thing was a lot of faff. I felt distracted by trying to make it work and that took away from the experience.

I then had the bright idea of attempting to make scissoring an actual thing, by putting the ring between us and pushing into it, but not even ATOM PLUS could make that work effectively.

Trying the ATOM cock ring with a strap-on

“What did I do to deserve you?” my partner said after a very powerful orgasm. I smiled at her, but she was talking to the cock ring.

The ATOM fitted our Purple Dick perfectly, and unlike the ATOM PLUS, snugly stayed put. The vibration worked well for both the fucker and fuckee, and we each tried it out in both roles. We both found that while getting fucked with ATOM attached we could easily achieve a hands-free orgasm, face-to-face, and felt very connected to each other. But as dick-wearer, neither of us could quite manage to come, but felt we potentially could, with practice. However the vibration was still an added bonus and definitely increased overall pleasure more than any vibrating dildo ever has.

To sum up: ATOM PLUS was not suitable for strap-on play unless using a very large girthed dildo to stop it sliding around. For this reason neither my partner or I can see it being a regular feature of our sexy times.

I would recommend ATOM to other queer vulva owners who like to give or receive penetration. If you only like to top it is also a great addition.

We both agree that we can see ATOM becoming a regular part of our sex life. Thanks, Hot Octopuss!
