PULSE & Disability – How It Works

PULSE DUO and PULSE SOLO ESSENTIAL have a unique design that specifically combats sexual dysfunction in patients with physical or neurological disabilities without the need for health practitioner intervention.

Unlike conventional vibrators that use an off-centred eccentric weight attached to a motor to create vibrations, PULSE uses a piston-type mechanism that causes its PulsePlate to move up and down. The technique is known as Penile Vibratory Stimulation and this is the first time the patented technology has been used in a sex toy.

The industry-acclaimed PULSE SOLO ESSENTIAL and DUO can be used to help combat sexual dysfunction in those with mobility issues, HIV and other physical disabilities affecting sex life, as the technology allows users to ejaculate (orgasm) without the need for an erection.

The technology allows for hands-free stimulation, making the toys an ideal aid for those with physical impairments. The couples’ version of the toy – the PULSE DUO – is the first toy to allow men with sexual dysfunction to enjoy full sex lives with their partners.

One disabled Hot Octopuss customer gave us this feedback: “As a quadriplegic, this device has literally changed my life and given me back something I thought I had lost forever. You really do not know what that means to me.”

Patricia Carney, M.Ed., Independent Consultant in Sexuality Education and Human Rights; Massachusetts, USA, also supports PULSE as an aid for those with disabilities. She says: “PULSE has helped a client of mine who has a very involved degenerative muscular disorder. He has also had several strokes and heart surgery. The only part of his body he can move independently is his head. He is able to breathe on his own, but has a tracheostomy tube, feeding tubes and catheters. I feel his ability to masturbate successfully is important to his dignity; one thing he can do that brings pleasure into his life and that he doesn’t require other people to do for him. A member of staff sets him up and then he is on his own. It is probably the most privacy he has in his day.”

Janice Hiller, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and psychosexual and relationship therapist at Tavistock Centre for Couples in London, said: “This product is an important adjunct for men with erectile dysfunction to help them resolve their sexual issues and address ongoing issues in couple relationships by helping maintain an erection.”

Hot Octopuss co-founder and designer of PULSE, Adam Lewis, said: “We’re extremely proud of PULSE DUO and SOLO ESSENTIAL as we’ve produced a truly innovative, design-led product that addresses a previously ignored sector of the marketplace. PULSE’s unique engineering and oscillating technology now offers a potentially life-changing solution for those suffering with sexual dysfunction as a result of disability and other health conditions.”

As part of the launch of PULSE, we’re inviting people to join a global conversation under the banner ‘Sex Not Stigma’. The aim is to encourage couples from all over the world to talk more honestly and openly about their sex lives in order to improve their relationships and sexual wellbeing, as well as gain a greater understanding of issues relating to sex.
