It’s that time of year again! Time for us to pack up a pile of sex toy goodies and head to Eroticon – the fantastic conference for sex writers and other creative types, who are all on a mission to spread the love through great erotic writing, sex education, blogging, and more. We’ve always been keen to support writers and educators in their mission, as the involvement of the sex positive community has been invaluable to us – not just inspiring our #SexNotStigma campaign, reviewing our sex toys, and helping to create a world that welcomes sexual pleasure in all its diverse forms.
Every year, Molly (who organises Eroticon and also blogs at MollysDailyKiss) runs a virtual ‘meet and greet’ – an opportunity for people to get to know a little about each other before they head to the conference. We love joining in with this, and hope you’ll get a kick out of our answers – and of course if you’re at Eroticon please come and chat to us at our stand – we have some really special new things to show you!
NAME (and Twitter if you have one)
We’re Hot Octopuss, and at Eroticon we’ll be represented by Aly and Alex – you can call us Al 😉 Twitter @HotOctopuss
What are you hoping to get out of Eroticon 2017?
Eroticon is always a great mix of networking and socialising as well as learning, so alongside all the info and tips we hope to pick up from the great speakers, we want to meet lots of new bloggers and writers. Some of our strongest relationships – with toy reviewers, erotic writers, and others – have been built off the back of a casual chat at Eroticon, so don’t be shy about saying hello!
As a sponsor, we also want to do a bit of showing off – we’ll be bringing along the Queen Bee – our brand new sex toy designed for clitoral stimulation. All the power and deep oscillation of PULSE, now available to everyone – woo! We hope you love it as much as we do!
And after the success of our sexy Hot Octopuss T-shirts last year, we might have a new design to give you – visit our stand to pick one out in your size.
This years schedule at Eroticon is pretty full on but which 4 sessions do you already have marked down as ones you want to attend?
There’s so much packed into the weekend that it’s hard to decide – and of course we’ll be at our stand for a lot of the time. If we get the opportunity to sneak out though, Jasmine and King Noire’s session on the adult industry for people of colour sounds really interesting, and DJ Fet’s rope workshop should be great fun.
Also, Ruby Goodnight’s talk on the ‘call-out’ wars. We know that social media is one of the best ways for companies to get engaged with customers, writers, journalists and educators, and we also know that it’s where many slip up. Taking advice and guidance from Ruby is a must!
Emily Rose Yates’ session on Undressing Disability looks fantastic too! Her work crosses over a lot with some of the blog posts we write on #SexNotStigma, and she’s a brilliant journalist and educator. We’re looking forward to hearing her take on sex and disability in the media, and the ways in which the discourse needs changing.
Phew, that’s a lot! And of course we’ll be in the sex tech hands on as well, given our passion for sex tech and the future of sex. We’ll likely also be on the panel about using your blog to educate – hope to see some of you there!
Tell us one thing about yourself that not many people know?
Thanks to a particularly memorable viral video, the HotOctopuss team once had a 59-email-long discussion about the pros and cons (mostly cons) of masturbating with a McChicken sandwich.
If you made the papers, what would the headline be?
We’ve made a few headlines already, but we’re ambitious, so how about:
‘Hot Octopuss Puts First Sex Toy On The Moon’
If you could have one skill for free (I.e. without practice/time/effort) what would it be?
Coming up with witty one-liners for any question.
Complete the sentence: I love it when…
… interesting, creative people get together.
We’re so pleased to be able to support Eroticon, and all the incredible sex writers and educators who go every year. We’re doubly excited because this year Eroticon is happening in Camden – just down the road from where Hot Octopuss was founded. It’s basically our birthplace, if a company can be said to have one.
Can’t wait to meet everyone and have an incredible weekend!
