Designing The World’s Most Powerful Cock Ring

The market is full of cock rings. What makes ATOM and ATOM PLUS different?
With most cock rings, the wearer benefits most from the product, with little focus being given to the partner. We wanted to create a true couples’ toy that would be as intense for the partner as the wearer. Both ATOM and ATOM PLUS feature a large contact area for the partner to grind against, and a raised nub to add pressure and stimulation. The combination of thoughtful ergonomics and some of the most powerful cock ring motors on the market ensures that both partners experience powerful vibrations during sex, taking couples’ play to new heights.
The really clever technology however comes into play with the ATOM PLUS. It incorporates integrated dual motors that provide perineum stimulation in addition to vibrations on top of the shaft. Stimulating the perineum as well as the penis provides heightened sensations that often result in extremely powerful and intense orgasms.
What’s the tech that enables ATOM PLUS to be probably the most powerful cock ring available?
Until now, the technology to run wires through a product that needs to stretch had not existed. So cock rings that have attempted to target the perineum have had to use a separate bullet vibe to achieve this, which can be fiddly and lacking in power. With ATOM PLUS we overcame this with a patented wiring system that enables the ring to stretch while still powering two hefty vibration motors simultaneously. This is the really interesting aspect of the design and the feature we patented.
What inspired the design of ATOM PLUS?
We were absolutely focused on designing a cock ring that would provide perineum stimulation for the penis owner. The perineum is an oft-overlooked erogenous zone but a really important one. Simultaneous perineum and penis stimulation provides powerful sensations and intense climaxes. We knew it would create a really fantastic product that could work for anyone with a penis.
What was the key design challenge in this range and how did you overcome it?
Without a doubt it was designing the internal wiring system. It needed to power two motors simultaneously without requiring a hard casing – interesting to us from a sex tech perspective. It took us eight months of trial and error to develop the coiled wire and casing that allows the two motors to be connected to the same battery, while also allowing the silicone exterior to flex and stretch as required to make it usable.
However, there were other challenges, for example the ergonomics of the contact area which is primarily, although not exclusively, designed with clitorises in mind. Also agreeing the size of the ring so that it could accommodate a wide range of penises (and testicles in the case of ATOM PLUS) while also sitting snugly on an erect penis when in use. Essentially we did a lot of testing to get this balance right and this is why it took us 18 months to get the products ready for market. We were lucky to have the help of the brilliant people at Therefore Design through the process.
Tell us one fascinating fact you learned while creating these toys?
I was very intrigued to discover how nervous many people are about sticking their testicles through a small hole! But on a more serious note, as most people know, a huge part of our mission is about inclusivity and accessibility. It has been fascinating to learn how effective a cock ring can be for those with erectile dysfunction. Of course it is well known that cock rings can improve the quality of an erection by increasing blood flow to the penis, but an erection isn’t required at any point to use ATOM PLUS and it can allow users to ejaculate from flaccid.
